Not always. Smaller single-storey rear extensions often fall under permitted development. Two-storey, side and larger designs usually need full planning permission from your local council. We’ll confirm the route after visiting.

Permitted development lets you build certain extensions without planning permission. Prior approval is a quicker check for larger single-storey rear extensions, up to 6 metres on a semi or 8 metres on a detached house. Neighbours are consulted, but it’s simpler than a full application.
Usually only for part of the build. We aim to keep your existing kitchen working for as long as possible. The knock-through is planned for once the new space is weathertight.
